St. Patrick’s Day is almost upon us, and with it will return the now traditional symbolic handing over of the shamrock and a beautifully crafted piece of Irish crystal from the people of the Ireland to the U.S. President at the White House. It’s become a highlight in Washington’s annual calendar, and a moment that is eagerly awaited and cherished by many Irish and Americans each year.
But do you know anything about the origins of this auspicious event? No, neither did I. So that’s why I thought it a nice idea to share with you a video posted on YouTube by the U.S. Embassy in Ireland which sheds some light as to the origins and the changes over the years of this now customary annual ceremony which has help cement the relationship between our two countries.
Lá fhéile Pádraig sona daoibh!.
